I was inspired to have a shoot that embodied the theme where tribal met carnival... some eroticism with a poetic flair. I call it Black Exotica. This was one of my favorite shoots to do. The energy in the room was so dope. The models really came through... some came at a last minute's notice, at that. Thanks to Kultjah (space) and Jason (body paint) for their help. Chocolate Sunshine, shown some posts below, was also a part of this project. She was shot on a different day, though. I needed one more model and she made it complete.

It's almost been a year since my last post.... tsk, tsk, tsk: shame on me. I feel that a lot of nothing has been going on and I'm working on changing that. My Connecticut to Atlanta transition hasn't been the smoothest but I must say, it has gotten better. Thank goodness for time!!! Since January, I've mainly been shooting for class assignments.... But, I've managed to document some ATL scenery.... Here's some school stuff from January - March:

Once a month, my friends and I would host a ladies night. We'd get together and talk about issues that concerned us, watch movies, and cook some good food. On occasion, we'd have "shoot outs". They'd come over with their suitcases filled with clothing and accessories, do each other's make up and I'd be ready with the lights, camera and backdrops.

It was a breath of fresh air; we all lead busy lives between kids, work and projects so it was fun to step outside the norm, get our dress up on and be free. These are just a few samples of what was produced that night.

Here are some before and afters that were taken around 3 or 4 years ago. So, this is Jefferine.... One of my muses... She is so great to work with and very photogenic. I was trying to airbrush for the first or second time. I over did it from her chin down but the touchup of the loc on her nose looks pretty good =)

Here's my good friend, Ernest. He wanted some pics taken so I went to his job and we shot on the property. There just happened to be some crane machine in the rear of the building so we used it as a backdrop. He was so cool to work with, too. Ernest had a lot of good shots but once I brought them in to Photoshop, I was inspired to play around a little more than usual with this one.

I've been strongly inspired to blog about my photography for a while now.... And because I consider myself to be a quiet person on this planet who is also a little inhibited, this medium has allowed me to express and confront myself. It also allows me to produce the reflection of others in the light of which I see them: Beautiful and Strong.

This was the first photo shoot that produced tears. When I pulled the prints out of the envelope and gave them to her, she began to well up, which in turn made me all teary eyed. I don't know what exactly was going through her mind as she looked at her reflection but what I do know is she saw and felt herself in a beautiful light. Every time I think of that moment, I kind of get emotional because the way we see ourselves is important...
